Hello and Happy All Saint’s Day.

It’s been a while……

Halloween-time kicked off here in RVA with the annual Zombie Walk. I didn’t participate but enjoyed watching the many brain hungry walkers.

Enjoy.

GRTC Bus Barn.

Here in RVA on Cary St. in The Fan is the old GRTC Bus Barn. If you live here you know the place. If you’re not here you can read up here, here, or here.

This January I went there to finally take photos of the murals. Unfortunately it was already fenced off so I got as close as I could. I’m glad I did because as of July 4th everything has been painted over and the renovations have started.

Here’s a last look at the art that once lived there. Enjoy.

InLight RVA.

RVA is home to InLight, a juried public art exhibition sponsored by 1708 Gallery. This year it was held at the VMFA which happens to be in walking distance to my place. So last night I wandered over last night. I opted to not bring my tripod and see what I could capture*.

*There are more photos I’ll share of some hoopers using LED hoops. There were so many of those I think they deserve their own post.

Here’s what I saw. Enjoy.

Happy Halloween.

Happy Halloween! It’s been awhile. I’ve been taking photos here and there but haven’t had time to post. Hope you are all doing well 🙂

Here in RVA Halloween takes place on Hanover Avenue in The Fan. People go all out, a block is closed, and candy. So much candy! I lived on this street for 5 years and gave away 2000+ pieces every year and one year I ran out. As you can imagine it’s vey crowded on Halloween so I decided to go a day early to see some decorations.

Here’s what I saw. Enjoy.

Halloween On Hanover.

Here in RVA there’s almost too much going on on any given holiday/special occasion. There were a few things to choose from last night for Halloween but I decided to keep my tradition going of Hanover Ave. For a stretch of about 7 blocks almost everyone decorates their houses and apartment buildings and it’s a giant street party. I just had my iPhone with me so some photos are a bit grainy and I think it adds to the Halloween-ness.

Here’s some of my favorites. Enjoy.

Coming Soon – 2013 Richmond Mural Project.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this years Richmond Mural Project (click here for last year’s photos and here to follow them) and am super excited to see it coming along here in RVA!

4 murals out of about 21 have been completed and as soon as I have the time I’ll start photographing them and posting…a lot like last year with one final post of all of them once they are all done.

I’m loving what I’ve seen so far and am looking forward to seeing more…

Hope your weekend was good – I have about 150 beach shots to go through and should have them ready this week.

Thanks to everyone who visits regularly, irregularly and anything in between 🙂

Chihuly Exhibit Part II.

Earlier this year the VMFA hosted a Dale Chihuly exhibit. I posted some photos a while back and promised more…

That was sometime in February I think. Better late than never…

I used Photoshop Elements to edit the ones I edited. The goal with these was to enhance them not necessarily change them too much. Shots 96, 99, 152 and 156 are unedited. Sometimes that shot you want is the one you get.

These are taken with my NikonD40 and the zoom (55-200mm). No tripod just handheld – it was crowded and the tripod would have gotten in the way.

I’m heading down to Nags Head NC camera in tow and hope to bring back some beachy type shots. Here’s some Chihuly. Enjoy.

The Fan In Black And White…Mostly.

I was a resident of The Fan in Richmond VA from 1991-2010 when I moved a whole 12 blocks west to The Museum District. I love The Fan…lots of good memories and interesting people.  The Museum District is great too…just different.

This set was taken May 25th in the afternoon. My aim was to take photos with the intent to convert them to B&W so I was thinking about that with each shot. There are 75 shot in all so this will be the First Set. I used Photoshop Elements for editing, which I’m enjoying. It’s very easy to get the hang of and has more editing capabilities than I first thought. I’m thinking I’ll go back to Photoshop proper for the next set and see if it’ll be any easier for me to navigate and work with.

I did get to some fireworks displays this year but didn’t take any photos.  I have so many from last year so I may do some editing with those…it’s not July without the obligatory fireworks post…

Here’s The Fan.  Enjoy.

Photoshopping The James River.

So I’ve been hearing about this PhotoShop thing for years. Since I can’t afford to buy it I went with a free trial to check it out. After playing around with it for the better part of this afternoon I think it’s easier than that Gimp thing and does all kinds of neat-o stuff. On the other hand – Unless the version that can be purchased has a zillion more capabilities I don’t see why it’s so pricey. I will admit I couldn’t figure out a lot of it and just stuck to the “basics” so I may be totally missing out. I’m downloading Photoshop Elements now to try that one out next. Since for now photography is my time to relax and create investing large sums of money doesn’t seem beneficial…yet.

Here’s the edit set from Brown’s Isle 5.13.13. The edits are first followed by the unedited versions. I know I like to see both. Enjoy.
